Here’s our Guide to Install Lightroom Presets quickly and easily!

One of the common issues faced by users trying to install Lightroom presets is “the preset file was the wrong type of preset.” This happens in Lightroom 4, 5, 6 and Lightroom CC. You are probably trying to install a brush preset into the develop presets folder.

Make sure you try the show lightroom presets folder instead of the develop presets folder once you open Lightroom.

The “develop presets” folder will only allow you to install global presets. These are the presets which can be applied to the whole of the photo and therefore impart a “global” effect.

How to Make Your Own Presets

To create the preset open an image in Lightroom CC (or Lightroom 4, 5, 6, CC, Classic) and go to the “develop presets” module or the Show Lightroom Presets tab.

Once you open the show Lightroom presets folder, apply the changes you want Lightroom to take care of automatically. Save settings and make sure to restart Lightroom CC after adding the presets.

To create a new Lightroom preset you can either click on the “+” sign on the right of “presets” in the “develop presets module”. This would open up a dialogue box asking you to name the preset, select the presets or create a new presets folder instead of the develop presets folder, where you would install Lightroom presets and then click on “create.”

Your Lightroom preset should be available under the specific folder you selected/created instead of the develop presets folder. After you restart Lightroom, simply click on the Lightroom preset with the image opened and the changes will be applied automatically.

Download and install Lightroom classic presets (compatible with Lightroom 4, 5, 6, CC, Classic) to help quickly transform your RAW captures into JPEG masterpieces.

All you need to get started is a camera, Lightroom Classic or Lightroom CC, and install a few Cole’s Classroom Adobe Lightroom Classic CC presets (all compatible with Lightroom 4, 5, 6, CC, Classic, and Classic CC.)
