Trust me, I get it, starting a website or blog sounds so scary and intimidating.  I used to be scared too!  But the truth is, it is now easier than ever before and not only that – it’s far cheaper than you may even realize.

Can you navigate around a Facebook page?

If so, you have enough skill to start your own website or blog and today I’ll show you step-by-step how to start a WordPress website or blog in only 5 minutes.  I know it sounds too good to be true but, as you will see, it’s all true 🙂

But first…

Why Should You Have Your Own Website?

  • Your own custom domain name adds professionalism to your business
  • Easier to add your own “personality” and branding with a website (compared to just a Facebook page etc…)
  • Give your prospects and clients a place to go with pertinent & needed info

Why Use WordPress?

  • Easy to set-up & update
  • Awesome for organic SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
  • Using Bluehost as your webhost, hosting is as inexpensive as $3.95 a month!

My Recommended Resources Mentioned in the Video

For your web-hosting I love using Bluehost.  They are the #1 WordPress hosting company, have hosting as little as $3.95 a month, awesome support, auto backups of site and depending on your plan, unlimited hosting space!  I’ve used them for the last 6 years on both Cole Joseph Photography and also this site – Cole’s Classroom.

To get started with using Bluehost, you can click this link here.

Now…to pretty up your WordPress website you’ll want to select a “theme”.  While there are some themes included for free I prefer to purchase a theme which will very easily let your website come to life and look way better.

I’ve been using ProPhoto Themes on my wedding photography website and on Cole’s Classroom I use a theme that I purchased from Themeforest which is an awesome (and huge) WordPress theme marketplace.

Themes that you find on Themeforest are typically around $40 to $60 and the ProPhoto Themes are around $199 (one time fees).  If you love a theme on ProPhoto you can use my special coupon code of CHUM6844 to save $10 off any ProPhoto Theme.

Disclosure: I am a proud affiliate of Bluehost & only recommend products I use and trust.   At no extra cost to you I receive a small commission which helps support Cole’s Classroom.  Thanks for your support!

Should I Hire a Web Designer?

That’s a personal decision.  If budget isn’t any concern, go for it!  But considering how much money most of them charge, you might be just fine grabbing a good looking theme/template and modifying from there.

Regardless of what you choose, you should make darn sure to read this post I did outlining my horrendous experience with a web designer and how I got fired (and lost a lot of money and time).  I learned some valuable lessons and teach you them in that post.

I hope this tutorial helps you out and more importantly, gets you on the right track to creating your website and really polishing up your image on the web which is so darn vital in this digital age.

Don’t forget to Pin an image from the post to bookmark and make easy to find later if you aren’t ready to start your new website today.
